My new K is leaking smoke. The back seals fine but the lid doesn't quite make it down all the way in the front. It will seal if I stand there and put pressure on it but won't stay that way, even with the locks on.

Is there a fix for this?

I am in my initial firing and can't keep the fire below 200. If I close the dampers anymore the fire goes out. I am maintaining 200-225 though.

OK, now I understand your post about the lowest temperature. You might need a band adjustment. There are several descriptions in the forum.

This should get you there.
Thanks to Djm5x9 for the easy link.

Bob,

Thanks for the link. However my K has bolts through the bands and through the ceramic. I don't believe it is adjustable.

The link also says a little smoke when the dampers are almost completely shut is ok. I don't know if that is affecting my ability to maintain a low temperature or it is me.

My other post was to find out how low you need to go. Just to make sure I wasn't trying to maintain a temperature that isn't even needed.

Remove your springs and see if you have the same problem. If not then you may simply need to shorten your springs slightly (or they may tend to compress a bit in the first couple months). If you have the same problem with no springs in place then you NEED to get the bands readjusted (drill different holes?) because the weight of the entire lid (magnified by a long lever-arm) is prying against a very small portion of the back lip of the body - absolutely NOT the intention of the manufacturer.

In addition to the helpful comments above. Try removing the upper through bolt on the lid (at the hinge position). This will allow a very small slipping of the bands in the back. After a few months you might want to replace the bolt but probably not. Give me a call if you need a little more instructions.
